Nasarawa State University Stampede: 2 Students Killed, 23 Injured

In a tragic turn of events, two students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi lost their lives, while 23 others were hospitalized during the distribution of palliatives at the institution.
The Head of Information of the school, Abraham Habu, revealed this distressing news to Channels Television via a telephone conversation.
According to Habu, the school had received palliatives from the state government aimed at alleviating the economic hardship faced by students. The distribution of these relief items was scheduled to take place on Friday at the convocation arena of the university.
However, chaos erupted when some students overwhelmed the security personnel present, leading to a stampede. This tragic incident resulted in the loss of lives and injuries to several students as they clamored to obtain the food items.
Habu further stated that while normalcy has been restored on the campus, the 23 injured students are currently receiving medical attention to ensure their recovery.
The distribution of palliatives to tertiary institution students in Nasarawa State had been initiated by the state government earlier in the week.
The program aimed to provide support to students grappling with financial challenges amidst the prevailing economic difficulties.
Prior to this unfortunate incident, a total of nine thousand students from tertiary institutions in Lafia and Akwanga had already benefitted from the distribution of palliatives.
