Nasarawa Governor Dissolves State Executive Council, Dismisses SSG

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has dissolved the state executive council, which includes all commissioners, and dismissed Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The announcement was made on Friday during a special emergency executive meeting held at the Government House in Lafia, following the conclusion of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s one-day working visit to the state.

A senior government official, speaking anonymously, stated that the reasons behind the dissolution remain unclear, but it is known that Governor Sule has a history of restructuring the state’s administration. In 2021, he had previously dissolved the state executive council to improve governance efficiency.

Citizens of Nasarawa State are now waiting for further details on the implications of this decision and the future direction of governance in the state.

A statement from Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, the permanent secretary of cabinet affairs and special services, expressed Governor Sule’s gratitude to the outgoing council members for their contributions and wished them success in their future endeavors.

The statement also outlined that all outgoing members are required to hand over the management of their ministries and any government property to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries. The former SSG was instructed to hand over his duties to the permanent secretary of cabinet affairs and special services.

In July 2023, Governor Sule submitted the names of 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as part of the state’s executive council.
