Minister of Defence Urges Nigerians to Unite as Family to Defeat Insecurity

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has said Nigeria can only overcome insecurity across the country if citizens work together as one family to eliminate all forms of evil.

He stressed that justice is essential for progress and development, noting that lasting peace can only be achieved when fairness prevails in all communities.

General Musa made the remarks while speaking at the 2025 At Yap Buffet organised in his honour. He said his primary responsibility is to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, while acknowledging the severe security challenges faced by communities in Kaduna State and the North-West.

“My duty is to secure the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Communities in Kaduna State, North West, have faced a lot of challenges. There is a need to urgently address these issues for Nigerians to lawfully undertake their duties for improved standards of living and a better society,” he said.

The minister admitted that mistakes were made in the past but assured that decisive steps are now being taken to restore peace for the benefit of all Nigerians.

He declared that the era of unchecked threats to citizens’ lives is coming to an end, while warning that enemies of the state remain active and will be confronted until they are fully neutralised.

Musa commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community members for their resilience against insecurity, urging Nigerians to embrace forgiveness as a pathway to national unity, growth, and development.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarebe described the Minister of Defence as a man of discipline and hard work whose dedication earned him his current position.

She said the Kaduna State Government has confidence in his ability to succeed in the assignment given to him by President Bola Tinubu, and prayed for divine wisdom to guide him in carrying out his responsibilities.

Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of At Yap Chiefdom, Sir Dominic Yahaya, called for peaceful coexistence within the chiefdom, Kaduna State, and Nigeria at large, urging citizens to remain their brother’s keepers in all aspects of life.
