Makinde Vows PDP Will Defeat APC in 2026 Osun, 2027 Oyo Elections

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 Osun and 2027 Oyo State elections. Speaking during the inauguration of the dual carriageway connecting Stadium Roundabout, Oke Baale Roundabout, and Ilesa Garage Roundabout in Osogbo, Makinde dismissed APC’s political ambitions as unrealistic.

Responding to APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s claims of reclaiming Osun and Oyo States, Makinde described the remarks as misguided. He commended Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his achievements and urged residents to support his re-election.

“The people of Osun have seen the light Governor Adeleke represents. They will show the APC their resolve in the next election,” Makinde said, praising Adeleke for completing inherited projects such as the newly inaugurated road initially initiated by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Makinde also lauded Adeleke’s infrastructure initiatives, including the 250km lighting project, which he credited for improving Osun’s economy. “Stick with Imole. It is working and will continue to work,” he urged Osun residents, using the governor’s nickname.

Calling for federal reforms, Makinde criticized Nigeria’s current system as discouraging and emphasized the need for true federalism. He described himself and Adeleke as “true progressives” in the South-West, dedicated to policies that prioritize citizens’ welfare.

Governor Adeleke, in his remarks, thanked Makinde for his support and reaffirmed his commitment to completing inherited projects and improving infrastructure. “We must secure our people as we provide better infrastructure and services,” Adeleke said, emphasizing road safety protocols for newly completed projects.

Makinde’s comments signal PDP’s resolve to strengthen its hold in the South-West through governance focused on development and inclusivity.
