Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, is qualified to become President of Nigeria.

Obi stated this on Monday at the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.

The former Anambra State governor said he was willing to work with any candidate who emerges victorious in the 2027 presidential election, provided the process is free, fair and credible.

“We want a Nigeria of unity and inclusion. We have a candidate who is contesting for President today, my dear brother Makinde. Is he qualified to be President? Yes, he is qualified,” Obi said.

He said the 2027 election should not be driven by desperation or personal interests but should give Nigerians the freedom to choose their next leader.

Obi urged politicians to put aside their differences and work together to rebuild the country, warning that Nigeria could no longer continue on its current trajectory.

“All of us should come together to build a new Nigeria. We can’t continue the way we are going. Our people are hungry and poor,” he said.

The NDC candidate said whoever wins the 2027 election through a free, fair and credible process should receive the support of other political actors to move the country forward.

“Whoever wins genuinely from a free, fair and credible election, we will all work together to save this country from collapse,” Obi said.

He also called for greater political unity, urging politicians to replace quarrels and disagreements with a collective focus on improving the lives of Nigerians.

“That’s why I’m here to show solidarity and assure you that we are changing the system. We don’t want politics of quarrel or politics of disagreement.“Let our quarrel be to feed our people. We want a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he added.
