Madonna, Shakira and BTS to Headline First-Ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show

Global music stars Madonna, Shakira and BTS are set to headline the first halftime show ever staged during a FIFA World Cup Final, organizers announced Thursday with help from characters from The Muppets.

The historic performance will take place July 19 at MetLife Stadium during the World Cup final.

Chris Martin, who is curating the halftime production, revealed the lineup in a video appearance alongside Elmo and other beloved Muppet characters.

In the video, Elmo suggested Madonna for the lineup, while Cookie Monster enthusiastically backed BTS “between bites of a cookie.” Animal voiced support for Shakira, declaring: “Animal want Shakira.” Meanwhile, Miss Piggy jokingly assumed she would be selected but appeared to accept the final decision gracefully.

Organizers said the halftime event will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to expand access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.

FIFA said $1 from every ticket sold for World Cup matches will be donated to the fund.
