The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, has clarified that the ministry’s mandate is to create an environment conducive to job creation rather than directly providing employment opportunities. Speaking at the annual conference of the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja on Thursday, Dingyadi outlined the ministry’s focus on fostering job growth through strategic policies and investments.
“The mandate of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is never to give employment to people. Our role is to foster job creation through strategic policies and investments,” he stated.
Dingyadi also highlighted initiatives under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including economic reforms, infrastructure investments, a revised minimum wage, and a focus on human capital development, as steps towards addressing unemployment.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, echoed the minister’s sentiments, urging Nigerians to remain patient amidst ongoing economic reforms. “Every economic reform comes with excruciating pain, but the path chosen will lead us to the desired destination,” Dare said.
These remarks underline the Federal Government’s emphasis on policy-driven solutions as part of a broader strategy to tackle employment challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.
