Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has introduced free bus services to assist commuters affected by the fare increase. The cost of transport has skyrocketed, with some routes seeing fares jump from N500 to N1,500, as tricycle operators strike in protest of soaring fuel prices.
Fuel stations in the state capital were reportedly selling fuel for N1,200 per litre, worsening the situation for residents. In response, Governor AbdulRazaq directed the immediate deployment of free buses, particularly for those attending job placement interviews organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor’s chief press secretary, stated that these buses would provide transportation to key locations across Ilorin. Governor AbdulRazaq also urged patience from both transporters and the public as the government works on measures to mitigate the effects of the fuel price hike.
