Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), replacing Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, who was relieved of his duties on December 12, 2025, due to health reasons.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the appointment on Saturday, stating that it takes effect from February 10, 2025.
Ibrahim, a seasoned administrator and former permanent secretary, brings over three decades of experience in public administration. He played a crucial role in shaping Kano State’s governance structure from 1987 to 2023, holding key positions across various ministries and agencies.
As Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs (2001–2015), he was instrumental in policy analysis and government advisory. He later served as Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services (2015–2016), further strengthening his leadership credentials.
Beyond his administrative roles, Ibrahim contributed to critical committees, including the Coordinating Committee on Independent Power (2012–2015) and the State Payroll Standing Committee (2000–2004). His early work in community and educational reforms underscores his long-standing commitment to public service.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University with a B.Sc. in Political Science, Ibrahim has also obtained several professional certifications.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to enhance administrative efficiency and support his government’s vision for sustainable development in Kano State.
