Governor Lawal Assures World Bank of Zamfara’s Security Gains

Governor Dauda Lawal has assured the World Bank that Zamfara State is making significant progress in tackling banditry and restoring security, paving the way for development initiatives.

During an official visit to the World Bank office in Abuja on Friday, the governor discussed strengthening partnerships in education, health, climate resilience, and agriculture.

In a statement on Saturday, his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, emphasized that the visit aimed to reinforce cooperation between Zamfara and the World Bank, advancing key development projects.

Governor Lawal acknowledged past security challenges that hindered project implementation but affirmed that proactive measures are restoring stability.

“We recognize that security challenges have previously hindered project implementation in Zamfara State. However, we have taken proactive measures to improve security, and things are returning to normal,” he stated.

He outlined key interventions, including increased patrols, strategic threat mitigation, and logistical support for security agencies. He also assured World Bank officials of their safety during project supervision visits, with secure accommodations, transportation, and communication protocols in place.

“Banditry attacks on our highways, villages, and cities are under control. We are gradually winning the war against criminals, as seen in the decreasing number of incidents and the steady progress in project implementation across the state,” Lawal added.

He invited the World Bank Country Director to visit Zamfara to witness firsthand the progress of World Bank-supported initiatives and the administration’s transformation efforts.

In response, the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiamé Diop, praised the governor’s rapid achievements, stating, “I am impressed by the system you put in place. Congratulations on achieving such feats.”

Additionally, the Task Team Leader of the NG-CARES project commended Zamfara’s implementation model, noting that it is now being replicated in other states and internationally.

Governor Lawal’s engagement with the World Bank marks a crucial step in strengthening development partnerships and ensuring sustained progress in Zamfara State.
