Judiciary Integrity: Kenneth Okonkwo Reacts To Nigerians Thanking Tinubu For Not Taking Kano And Plateau States

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the Labour Party (LP), has voiced concerns over the gratitude expressed by some Nigerians towards President Bola Tinubu for not influencing the Supreme Court’s judgment on the governorship seats in Kano and Plateau States.
The recent Supreme Court decision ruled against the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the disputed 2023 governorship elections.
While many have commended President Tinubu for maintaining a neutral stance and not intervening in the court’s decision, Okonkwo sees this appreciation as a challenge to the judiciary’s integrity.
Okonkwo, expressing his views on his X account on Sunday night, urged the judiciary to uphold its independence and work towards gaining the trust of the Nigerian people.
In his post, he stated, “It’s really very sad that people are thanking the President that he decided not to take Kano and Plateau States. This is an indictment of the Judiciary as being in the pocket of the President. The Judiciary must get to the level where they must assert their independence and impartiality to earn the trust and respect of Nigerians.”
