FC Internazionale Milano secured the Coppa Italia title on Wednesday after a 2-0 victory over S.S. Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, completing a memorable domestic double following their recent Serie A triumph.
Inter carried momentum into the final after clinching the league title and dominating Lazio 3-0 in Serie A just days earlier.
The breakthrough arrived in the 14th minute when Lazio defender Adam Marusic accidentally turned a corner into his own net while attempting a clearance.
The Nerazzurri continued to control proceedings and nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Denzel Dumfries saw his close-range effort blocked.
Inter eventually extended their advantage before halftime after Lazio defender Nuno Tavares lost possession in a dangerous area. Marcus Thuram quickly capitalised and delivered a low cross for captain Lautaro Martínez, who tapped home to make it 2-0.
“We showed good results, performances, intensity, so I am proud that we are finishing with another trophy that means so much,” Martínez said after the match.
Lazio attempted to respond through Gustav Isaksen and Tijjani Noslin, but Inter’s defence remained composed as they comfortably saw out the victory.
The win marks another major success for Inter, who have now added the Coppa Italia crown to their 21st Serie A title, further underlining their dominance in Italian football this season.
