The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally released the notice for the Surulere Federal Constituency I bye-election in Lagos State.
The INEC Public Affairs Officer in Lagos State, Adenike Oriowo, who confirmed the development to journalists on Friday, said the notice had been displayed at the commission’s headquarters in Sabo-Yaba for public viewing since Thursday.
Oriowo stated that INEC has initiated activities and adhered to the timetable for the upcoming elections, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring strict compliance with relevant laws and guidelines.
It could be recalled that INEC had announced the schedule for re-run and by-elections in nine states, including Surulere Federal Constituency in Lagos State, to take place on Feb. 3, 2024, with party primaries and dispute resolutions from January 5 to January 9, and public campaigns running from January 18 to February 1.
The seat became vacant due to the resignation of the former occupant, Femi Gbajabiamila, who assumed the role of Chief of Staff after his victory in the election.
