On June 15, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, the Chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is scheduled to appear before the Presidential Election Petition Court.
He will testify in a petition that Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, filed to contest Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election as president.
Chris Uche and the rest of Atiku’s legal team have already served a subpoena on Mahmood.
Mahmood would testify in court on the conduct of the contested Presidential election and present certain important files in favour of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, according to Uche’s announcement during a recent court proceeding.
However, Uche did not specify what these documents would be.
During the proceedings, Atiku’s team introduced their first key witness, Dr Alex Adum Ter, a lawyer and former Attorney General of Benue State.
Ter alleged that the presidential election was riddled with irregularities and failed to comply with the Electoral Act 2022.
Ter provided three video clips as proof. Ter was the National Coordinator of Situation Room for the PDP during the February 25 presidential election.
The clips assured Nigerians that the results of the presidential election will be electronically transmitted for authenticity and transparency. They featured broadcasts from Mahmood and INEC’s Commissioner in Charge of Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye.
The video clips and other documents were permitted as exhibits by Justice Tsammani despite vehement protests from Tinubu and the APC, and were subsequently played in open court.
On June 14, further hearing in the petition will recommence.
