Akeredolu Takes 21-day Leave For Medical Treatment Abroad, Transfers Power To Deputy

Rotimi Akeredolu
Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has formally requested a 21-day leave of absence for overseas medical treatment in a letter to the State House of Assembly.
The letter states that Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s deputy, will serve as acting governor while the governor is away.
The leave period began on June 7 and is anticipated to end on July 6, 2023 (taking into account the official holidays of Democracy Day on June 12 and Eid el-Kabir on June 28 and 29).
The Governor promised that he would resume on July 6, 2023.
Oladimeji Oladiji, Speaker of the State Assembly, announced that Governor Akeredolu’s letter had been approved.
The Speaker had earlier described the Governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of rule of law.
He later wished him a speedy recovery.
Prior to this, Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, and deputy governor Lucky Ayedatiwa both denied having a disagreement.
Following reports of Akeredolu’s poor health, there have been claims that Ayedatiwa is pushing for a change in the state’s political structure.
Ayedatiwa reiterated his unwavering devotion to Governor Akeredolu in reaction to the accusations.
Ayedatiwa told Vanguard in a conversation that he would be eternally grateful and devoted to the governor. He spoke through an aide.
