Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, assured on Friday during a media chat at the Government House, Umuahia, that his administration has no intention of dismissing civil servants. Instead, he confirmed that workers are receiving their salaries regularly. However, the governor cautioned that truancy among workers would not be tolerated.
In response to renewed appeals from non-indigenous workers dismissed by a previous administration, Otti expressed willingness to review their requests for reinstatement. He emphasized that all Abia residents, regardless of their state of origin or tribe, should be treated as citizens.
Governor Otti also highlighted his administration’s donation of cash and food to victims of a boundary clash in Isu, Arochukwu LGA, and stated that efforts are ongoing between Abia and Cross River governments to resolve the longstanding boundary issues.
Addressing the recent Labour Party (LP) stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, Otti explained that the appointment of a caretaker committee was necessary to strengthen the party and prevent its collapse. He dismissed threats by the Julius Abure-led faction to summon him and others before a disciplinary committee.
On the water crisis in Okwoyi, Umuahia North LGA, Otti mentioned that new water projects are underway across the state, promising that the issues affecting the Okwoyi community and other areas will soon be resolved.
