Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the immediate dissolution of the Gombe State Executive Council, ending the tenure of commissioners who have served for over two and a half years.
The decision was announced after the 53rd State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday and confirmed in a press briefing by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi. Commissioners have been instructed to hand over the affairs of their ministries to permanent secretaries on or before Friday, April 10, 2026, to ensure administrative continuity.
While no official reason was provided, the move is seen as linked to emerging political interests and possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections. The governor is expected to reconstitute the council in the coming days.
Governor Yahaya expressed appreciation to outgoing council members for their service and contributions to governance, noting their role in advancing policies that impacted citizens. He also directed all political appointees and aides intending to contest the 2027 elections to resign their appointments by April 10, in line with electoral guidelines.
During a valedictory session, commissioners reviewed their performance, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic reforms, while passing a vote of confidence in the governor’s leadership. The outgoing members expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged continued support for the administration’s vision.
