FG Orders Arrests Over Alleged Abuse At Delta Festival

The Federal Government has directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute those linked to alleged sexual assault during a cultural event in Delta State.
The order was issued by the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, following the circulation of a viral video said to show incidents of harassment during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro community.
Reacting to the reports, the minister expressed concern over claims that women were mistreated during the event in Isoko North Local Government Area.
She also called for swift action from authorities, while acknowledging efforts already taken by the Delta State Police Command.
“A transparent, thorough, and accelerated investigation to ensure that all persons implicated are identified and brought to justice without delay.”
Describing the situation as unacceptable, she stressed that such actions violate fundamental rights and legal protections.
“No cultural or traditional practice can justify or excuse sexual violence in any form. Sexual assault is a serious criminal offence, and all allegations must be thoroughly investigated, with perpetrators held fully accountable under the law,” she said.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting women and girls, adding that support would be provided to victims.
According to her, the ministry will work closely with relevant authorities to ensure those affected receive necessary care, including medical attention, psychosocial support, and legal assistance.
She further noted that engagement with traditional leaders and community stakeholders would be strengthened to prevent future occurrences.
The government also urged members of the public to assist law enforcement agencies with useful information to aid ongoing investigations and ensure justice is served.
