FG Declares May 1, 2026 Public Holiday for Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, workers across the country were congratulated ahead of the celebration.

Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their dedication and contribution to national development, noting that their efforts remain central to the country’s growth and prosperity. He urged them to continue to uphold values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty.

“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day,” the statement read.

The minister also reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening security, while creating an enabling environment for economic growth.

He further urged Nigerians to remain peaceful during the celebration and use the occasion to reflect on unity, diligence, and nation-building.
