Fayose Backs Oyebanji’s Re-election Amid Party Backlash

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s bid for a second term, showing defiance against any potential backlash from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This declaration was made over the weekend during the commissioning of the De-Head/Faglo Road and electrification project in Ado-Ekiti, which links suburban areas such as Irewumi, Orungbe, Olorunsogo, Surelere, Olorunda, and Ijadu to Basiri.

Fayose commended Oyebanji for successfully completing projects initiated by prior administrations, highlighting this as a sign of unity among Ekiti leaders. He revealed that all former governors of the state have agreed to support Oyebanji’s re-election, citing the governor’s commendable performance.

“I don’t care what people say about me. I stand with you, and anyone not pleased with this can take their party elsewhere. The people are speaking for the governor; they love him and want him back, and I can’t oppose my people,” Fayose asserted, adding that Oyebanji’s legacy will endure beyond his time in office.

In response, Governor Oyebanji underscored his administration’s achievements, notably the electrification of over 40 towns since he took office two years ago, which he believes is essential for local economic development. He pointed out that the road commissioned had been initiated by Fayose but completed under his administration, emphasizing the importance of building on past efforts for continuity in governance.

“The road was started by Governor Ayodele Fayose, and I completed it. This is why it’s important for leaders to perform while in office. All our past governors have done well and deserve our respect,” Oyebanji remarked.

He reiterated his commitment to grassroots development, ensuring rural areas benefit from electricity and road projects, which he views as critical for local economic growth. Oyebanji also pledged that local government chairmen would receive support from the state government to replicate development efforts at the grassroots level.

“Light and roads are essential to development, and we will continue connecting towns to electricity and roads. Every community deserves to experience progress, as our votes are of equal value,” Oyebanji concluded.
