Family of Late Olubadan Announces Burial Arrangement

The family of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has announced the burial arrangements for the revered monarch, who passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 81.
According to the family’s statement, Oba Balogun will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites today, Friday, March 15, 2024, in his Aliiwo ancestral home in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The announcement of the burial plans comes shortly after the demise of the Oyo monarch, who breathed his last at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, following a brief illness.
Baba-Kekere Olubadan, alongside his younger brother, Kola Balogun, conveyed the details of the burial arrangements to the public.
“Oba Balogun would be buried at his Aliiwo ancestral home by 4 pm on Friday (today), according to Islamic rites. The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, though already verbally informed, would be formally notified early this morning,” the statement read.
The late Olubadan had recently celebrated his second anniversary as the traditional ruler of Ibadanland, marking the occasion just 72 hours before his passing. His sudden demise came after a bout of slight malaria fever, which prompted his admission to the hospital on Wednesday morning.
He said, “Aged 81, the late monarch was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning, having stayed indoors throughout Tuesday on account of slight malaria fever, though he was hale and hearty on Monday, during which he received a few guests that paid him congratulatory visits on his second anniversary on that day.”
The late Olubadan was renowned not only for his traditional leadership but also for his academic and professional accomplishments.
He held a PhD from a British institution, served as a university lecturer, and held managerial positions at Shell British Petroleum.
Additionally, he ventured into politics, contesting for governorship under the defunct Nigeria People’s Party, and served as a Senator, leaving behind a legacy of service and leadership.
