Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has established a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to review the eight-year tenure of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki. The committee, set to be inaugurated on November 26, 2024, will be led by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, a retired Permanent Secretary from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
This initiative is part of Governor Okpebholo’s efforts to promote accountable leadership and development in the state. A statement from his media aide, Fred Itua, highlighted that previous calls for a detailed record of the state’s assets and liabilities under Obaseki’s administration had not been adequately addressed. It was further noted that the Obaseki-led government had only provided an incomplete list of the state’s assets and liabilities.
In line with his campaign promises of probity, transparency, and accountability, Governor Okpebholo’s administration aims to ensure proper governance through the committee. Other members of the panel include Bar. Anslem Ojezua (Deputy Chairman), Frank Osumuede Edebor (Secretary), Prince Kassim Afegbua, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale, and several other notable figures from various sectors.
