Clark Urges IGP to Arrest Wike for Treason, Citing Threats to PDP Governors

Elder statesman and Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called on Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on charges of treason. Clark’s demand followed Wike’s alleged threats to incite violence in states controlled by Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after their visit to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a letter addressed to the IGP and read to journalists in Abuja, Clark urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow his personal relationship with Wike to compromise national interests. He reminded the IGP of his responsibility to enforce the law impartially and emphasized that Wike’s statements posed a serious threat to public peace and amounted to incitement, a punishable crime under Nigerian law.

“Wike has committed treason, and he should be arrested with a warrant,” Clark said, accusing the FCT Minister of using his political influence to control key institutions, including the judiciary. He expressed concern that Wike’s actions were creating unrest and warned of potential retaliation from youths in the states Wike allegedly threatened to set ablaze.

Clark also criticized Wike for amassing wealth during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State, questioning the legitimacy of his finances and property acquisitions. He called for an investigation into Wike’s assets, particularly in Rivers State and Abuja. Clark urged PDP leaders and Nigerians committed to justice to stand firm against Wike’s ambitions, emphasizing the importance of upholding the party’s constitution and resisting unlawful actions by the FCT Minister.
