CBN Governor: Nigeria’s Economy Stronger, Banks Financially Robust

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has declared that Nigeria’s economy is stronger than ever, capable of withstanding external shocks more effectively.

Speaking on Friday at the 60th annual dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos, Cardoso highlighted Nigeria’s economic resilience alongside Ethiopia, noting that both countries are leading Africa’s recovery.

He attributed the progress in part to reforms in the banking sector, pointing to recent stress tests that showed Nigerian lenders remain financially robust. “The economy today can withstand external shocks better than at any point in our history,” Cardoso said.

The CBN governor also reaffirmed the apex bank’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the domestic financial market, stressing that reforms will continue to strengthen Nigeria’s financial system into 2026.
