Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced grave concerns about the Federal Government’s apparent indifference towards the escalating violence across Nigeria. In a statement shared on X, Atiku condemned the recent tragic events in Yobe, which resulted in significant loss of life, as well as the widespread devastation affecting villages in Katsina, Sokoto, and other parts of the North-West and North-Central regions.
Atiku criticized the government for focusing on minor issues while the country is embroiled in severe turmoil. He also highlighted the unrest in the South, where Boko Haram’s activities and political strife are further disrupting national peace. “The Federal Government is preoccupied with suppressing dissent and resorting to harsh measures, such as imposing death sentences on protesters, instead of addressing the pressing security issues,” Atiku stated.
He emphasized that the violence in Yobe underscores the failure of the current security framework, calling for immediate and comprehensive reforms. Atiku urged the Tinubu administration to demonstrate a stronger commitment to protecting lives and property throughout Nigeria, stressing the urgent need for effective security solutions to combat the ongoing crisis. “My heart goes out to the victims of these horrific attacks,” he said, “and I fervently urge the Tinubu administration to show a renewed commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.”
