Anambra 2025: Ukachukwu Vows to End Godfatherism, Lead APC to Victory

Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra election, says he is stepping away from his role as a political godfather to personally contest for the state’s top seat.

Speaking after clinching victory in the APC primary on Saturday, Ukachukwu described his emergence as the dawn of a new political era.
“Nobody has won the governorship of Anambra State without my support. I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father. No more godfather,” he declared.

He urged party stakeholders to unite behind his candidacy, stressing the importance of collaboration.
“This is not the journey, but the beginning of the journey itself… I need all your support, I need all your prayers. We have to work hard,” he said.

Ukachukwu also addressed past remarks by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who previously downplayed APC’s presence in the state.
“Before now, the governor said there is no APC in Anambra State. Today, he said APC is in Anambra State,” Ukachukwu noted, expressing optimism about the party’s rising influence.

In the primary, Ukachukwu secured 1,455 votes, defeating Valentine Ozigbo (67 votes), Johnbosco Onunkwo (26 votes), and Edozie Madu (8 votes).

The Anambra governorship election is slated for November 8, 2025.
