As they enter the semifinals at Flushing Meadows on Friday, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and 23-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic are just one win away from a thrilling US Open final showdown.
The 20-year-old Spaniard will play third-seed Russian Daniil Medvedev on Friday in the semifinals; he has already soundly defeated Medvedev twice this season.
The tournament’s big-serving surprise player, American rookie Ben Shelton, will take on Serbian second seed Djokovic on the other side of the draw. Djokovic will succeed Alcaraz as the world’s No 1 at the end of the tournament.
