Aisha Yesufu Reacts To Senate President ‘Token’ Clip

Aisha Yesufu, a well-known activist from Nigeria, has reacted to an erroneous statement made by Godswill Akpabio, the Senate president, during a plenary session.
After the Senate had finished screening President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, Akpabio addressed his colleagues before an adjournment motion was made, and he made the mistake of revealing that senators had been sent tokens to “enjoy” their recess.
A video clip showing Akpabio making the blunder had gone viral on social media.
Nigerians reacted in various ways to the video that surfaced on Wednesday.
Speaking on the situation, Yesufu said that the Senate had changed his comments to prayers because it was aware that religion is a powerful instrument in Nigeria.
She condemned the legislators for their lack of empathy for the Nigerian people.
Yesufu wondered how the government could be comfortable in sharing tokens while the Nigerian people are suffering.
Speaking via a video on Twitter, Yesufu wrote, “Are you enjoying while they are enjoying? The people elected into office are there to serve you not the other way round.
“Akpabio changed it to prayers have been sent because they know religion is our mumu button.”
