The Abia State government has refuted a statement attributed to Governor Alex Otti, suggesting his support for the May 30 sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information and Culture, clarified that neither Governor Otti nor the state government endorsed the protest.
The controversy arose from a misquoted statement allegedly made by Otti through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The state government emphasized that Governor Otti did not make the statement, nor does it reflect his or the government’s views.
The government is conducting a full investigation into the miscommunication, asserting its stance against any actions that obstruct citizens’ freedom of movement. Governor Otti reiterates zero tolerance for criminality or civil disturbance in Abia State.
