The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a national stakeholders’ meeting and world press conference for October 6, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

The event is expected to mark the 100-day countdown to the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a post on its X handle, INEC said political party leaders, civil society organisations, election observers, security agencies, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and the media are expected to attend.

The meeting will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Although the event is not listed in INEC’s published timetable, the commission said it would provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on preparations for the elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to preside over the meeting and address the world press conference, with National Commissioners assisting him.

The stakeholders’ meeting will be strictly by invitation.

In a statement announcing the event, the commission said:

“As preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invites political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting marking the 100-day milestone to the first ballot.

“The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, and will provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on preparations for the 2027 General Election.”
