A Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk killed at least 13 people, including a child, and wounded 75 others on Monday, according to authorities in Russia’s Tatarstan region.

The Ukrainian military said its forces targeted an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, a major center of Russia’s energy and petrochemical industries.

Russian officials did not immediately specify which facilities were struck but said the city came under a “massive” drone attack targeting industrial and civilian sites.

Nizhnekamsk is home to two oil refineries and a major petrochemical complex, making the city an important part of Russia’s energy infrastructure.

The press service of Tatarstan regional leader Rustam Minnikhanov confirmed the casualties but provided few additional details about the extent of the damage.

Ukraine has intensified long-range drone attacks against Russian oil facilities in recent months as part of a broader campaign targeting Moscow’s energy infrastructure.

The repeated strikes have disrupted some Russian refining operations, contributed to fuel supply pressures and increased concerns over the vulnerability of energy installations deep inside Russian territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the campaign is intended to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and push Moscow toward negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s more than four-year invasion of Ukraine.

Monday’s attack highlights Ukraine’s growing ability to conduct long-range strikes far beyond the front lines as both sides continue exchanging aerial attacks with little sign of an immediate end to the war.
