Sowore: DSS Must Serve Nigerians, Not Private Interests.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general election, Omoyele Sowore, has said the Department of State Services (DSS) exists to serve the Nigerian people rather than private individuals or organisations.

Sowore made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Earlier, Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar dismissed Sowore’s application to tender uncertified documents in his ongoing trial over alleged defamatory statements against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reacting to the court’s decision, Sowore maintained that the DSS is a public institution funded by taxpayers and should operate in the interest of Nigerians.

“One thing was also established today in court. DSS is employed by Nigerian people. It is not the private security guard organisation of anybody,” he said.

The former presidential candidate further argued that the agency should not be regarded as the President’s personal security outfit.

“The DSS is not the main guard of the president, but they don’t get that memory yet. It’s our duty in what we do to let that sink in for all these guys who think that there’s no tomorrow.

“We will remind them that our today is more important than the tomorrow they want to hijack. We will free ourselves today, and we will free ourselves for tomorrow and for the future,” Sowore said.
