Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and declared support for Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governor also announced that he had aligned with the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance spearheaded by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing the move as part of efforts to promote peace and unity in the state.
Fubara made the declaration on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riven Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State has been resolved, with all contending factions agreeing to work together in the interest of peace, stability and development.
The governor’s endorsement comes months after he withdrew from the APC governorship primary despite purchasing the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, a decision that paved the way for Chinda to emerge as the party’s standard-bearer.
Addressing his supporters, Fubara urged them to put past political disagreements behind them and unite in support of Tinubu, Chinda and all APC candidates in the state.
“We have made peace in the state, and I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our president, and he is the one we are supporting. O.K. Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support him and every other candidate under the Rainbow Coalition,” he said.
The governor added that he had returned to his political family and appealed to his supporters to fully embrace the coalition.
“I’ve gone back to our family. So please, whoever you are, give your total support to the Rainbow Coalition. We need to move forward. The time for war is over. It is time for peace, and this peace is taking us to another level,” he said.
Fubara also warned against any attempt to associate him with political activities outside the coalition, insisting that his position was clear.
“I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity to this state. I’ve done what I need to do, and we are moving forward,” the governor added.
