Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has clarified that he has never publicly endorsed the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, or any other politician.
Falz made the clarification on Tuesday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
He said his consistent position has been to encourage Nigerians, particularly young people, to participate in the electoral process rather than support any specific candidate or political party.
“Just a point of correction. I never openly supported Peter Obi or any politician or party in 2023 or at any point. I have actively encouraged people to go out and vote,” he said.
The artiste stressed that he has always advocated for a free, fair and credible democratic process.
“I clamour for a free and fair democratic process. I haven’t stuck out my neck for any politician for obvious reasons,” he added.
Falz also called for efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, expressing concern over the country’s recurring political leadership.
“I think it’s very important to strengthen our democracy in this country. We’ve been going in cycles, and it just seems like almost the same crop of people we keep on reshuffling, and at the end of the day, it’s tough to even sit anywhere and vouch for a Nigerian politician in 2026,” he said.
