Amusan Builds Momentum, Targets Prefontaine Classic

Nigeria’s world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, says she is turning her attention to the upcoming Prefontaine Classic after expressing satisfaction with her latest performance on the Diamond League circuit.

Speaking after her race, the former world champion said she struggled with the warm conditions but was pleased with her execution and, more importantly, her fitness.

“I do not like the warm weather at all, but whatever the weather, I was going to come out here and kill it. My execution was alright. I am just happy to be injury free,” Amusan said.

She also spoke about how she manages expectations as one of the world’s top hurdlers, noting that pressure does not affect her performance mindset.

“The pressure does not get to me. I have grace, a very strong support system around me, and that finish line. So I am never worried about pressure on the night.”

Amusan added that each race presents different challenges, requiring constant adjustment in her approach depending on conditions and circumstances.

“My approach to the hurdles varies. Sometimes you are thinking about what has just happened. Other days, it is really sloppy and I still come out and run a fast time. I try to take a shot at every race.”

Looking ahead, she confirmed that her immediate target is the prestigious Prefontaine Classic, although she has not yet decided on her next competitions after that.
