Tinubu Unveils New Court of Appeal Headquarters in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the new Abuja Division Complex of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, describing the project as a major step toward strengthening the judiciary and enhancing the administration of justice.

Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu commissioned the facility on Monday in the Dakibiyu area of Abuja.

The newly completed complex features two large courtrooms, eight smaller courtrooms, a library, judges’ chambers, conference halls, and administrative offices.

Speaking at the inauguration, the president said the judiciary must be equipped with facilities that reflect its critical constitutional role.

“This is not just a building. This is a statement that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the rule of law will have a befitting home,” he said.

Tinubu noted that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal had operated for years from inadequate facilities, adding that the new complex would improve access to justice and boost judicial efficiency.

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for completing the project within the stipulated timeframe.

Earlier, Wike said the initiative was conceived after concerns were raised about the poor condition of the court’s former facility and the welfare of judicial officers.

“When I informed Mr President of the condition of the court of appeal, he immediately directed that we should provide a befitting complex and decent accommodation for judges and justices,” he said.

The minister disclosed that the FCT Administration is also constructing residential quarters for judicial officers serving in various courts across the capital city.

In her remarks, President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, said the new complex would address long-standing infrastructure challenges faced by the Abuja Division.

She explained that despite handling a heavy caseload, the division had for years operated with limited courtroom space and often relied on facilities provided by other courts.

According to Dongban-Mensem, the new facility will significantly improve the speed, efficiency, and quality of justice delivery.
