The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission have renewed their collaboration aimed at ensuring free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

The partnership is focused on addressing vote-buying, electoral fraud, and other financial crimes that threaten the integrity of the country’s democratic process.

According to the EFCC, the renewed cooperation was announced in a post on its official X page following a visit by the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obo Effanga, to the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate.

Effanga, who was recently deployed to Edo State, described the engagement as part of broader efforts to strengthen collaboration with key security and law enforcement agencies ahead of upcoming elections, including off-cycle governorship polls and the 2027 general elections.

Both agencies noted that vote-buying and monetary inducement during elections remain major threats to Nigeria’s democratic credibility, warning that such practices could undermine public trust in the electoral system.

The EFCC and INEC said the renewed partnership will strengthen enforcement mechanisms and improve coordination in tackling electoral offences as political activities intensify nationwide.
