The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid ul-Adha.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid ul-Adha to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, as part of the global Islamic community.
The minister extended the Federal Government’s goodwill to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul-Adha as a festival rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the period for prayer and reflection, calling for divine guidance for the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and economic prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
