Abia Can’t Rely Solely on National Grid — Otti

Alex Otti has declared that Abia State can no longer depend entirely on Nigeria’s national grid for electricity supply, stressing that his administration is pursuing alternative energy solutions to support industrialisation and economic growth.

The governor made the statement on Wednesday while receiving Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), in the state.

Otti said stable electricity remains critical to the development of commercial centres such as Umuahia and Aba, adding that the state government is willing to partner with organisations capable of improving power supply.

“We are ready to work with every organisation that can help improve electricity in the state because power is central to our industrialisation agenda,” the governor stated.

According to him, the key priority for the state is not necessarily the source of electricity but ensuring that residents and businesses enjoy reliable and uninterrupted power supply.

Speaking during the visit, Adighije disclosed that the 450-megawatt section of the Alaoji Power Plant has been restored after years of collapse.

She explained that the facility is now expected to inject about 375 megawatts of electricity into the national grid, a development she said would improve power supply within the region and across the country.

The NDPHC boss also assured the Abia State Government of the company’s commitment to supporting the state’s industrialisation drive through improved electricity generation and distribution.
