Tinubu Begins Multi-Country Trip for Economic, Climate Talks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on May 2, 2026, for a multi-country trip to France, Kenya, and Rwanda, where he will participate in high-level engagements focused on economic growth, investment, and climate action.

The visit was disclosed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu’s first stop will be France before proceeding to Nairobi, Kenya, for the Africa-France Summit scheduled for May 11–12. The summit will be co-chaired by Emmanuel Macron and William Ruto.

The gathering, themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,” will focus on issues including energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, global financing reforms, and climate action.

According to the presidency, Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with African countries and France, while advancing economic transformation and climate resilience.

Following the summit, the president will travel to Kigali, Rwanda, to attend the Africa CEO Forum from May 14–15. The event, themed “Scale or Fail,” is expected to bring together over 2,000 business leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss strategies for accelerating Africa’s economic growth through regional integration and cross-border investment.

Organised in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the forum is regarded as one of the continent’s largest gatherings of private sector and government leaders.

At both events, Tinubu is expected to present his administration’s economic reform agenda aimed at positioning Nigeria as a leading investment destination. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with global and African business executives.

The president will be accompanied by ministers and senior aides and is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Rwanda.
