Paris Saint-Germain secured a dramatic 5–4 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Parc des Princes, taking a slender advantage into the return fixture in Germany.
The match delivered one of the most astonishing semi-final encounters in recent Champions League history, producing nine goals in a relentless, end-to-end contest that showcased attacking brilliance from both sides.
PSG struck first through high-intensity play but were initially pegged back as Bayern took an early lead in a frantic opening phase. The French champions then responded emphatically, scoring freely to turn the game around and surge into a commanding 5–2 lead.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia netted twice for PSG, while Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé also scored a brace. Midfielder João Neves added another goal to complete PSG’s haul.
Bayern refused to collapse and mounted a late fightback, with goals from Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano, Luis Díaz, and Michael Olise narrowing the deficit to 5–4 and keeping the tie finely poised.
PSG manager Luis Enrique described the encounter as one of the most intense matches of his coaching career, admitting the game could have gone in any direction.
“I’ve never seen such intensity and physical level… We deserved to win, we deserved to draw, and we deserved to lose today,” he said, praising both teams for their attacking approach.
The match marked a rare defensive collapse for both sides, with Bayern conceding five goals in a single match for the first time since 2023 and PSG also enduring their heaviest defensive outing in recent seasons.
Despite the chaos, PSG now head into the second leg in Germany with a narrow advantage, while Bayern remain confident of overturning the deficit at the Allianz Arena, where their attacking trio has been in prolific form throughout the season.
The return leg is expected to be another high-stakes, open contest as both sides chase a place in the Champions League final.
