U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other attendees were unharmed following a shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday night in Washington, D.C.
The incident occurred near the main security screening area at the Washington Hilton hotel, according to the U.S. Secret Service. Authorities said a suspect, identified as Cole Allen of Torrance, California, has been taken into custody.
During a press briefing, Trump said a Secret Service agent wearing body armor was shot in the chest. The agent sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. No other injuries were reported.
Officials have not yet determined a motive for the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing.
