Trump Signs Order to Fast-Track Psychedelic Therapies for Mental Health Treatment

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Saturday aimed at accelerating the research, development, and approval of psychedelic-based therapies for mental health conditions, including PTSD, depression, and addiction.

The announcement was made at the White House alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, senior health officials, and podcast host Joe Rogan.

The initiative is expected to focus on substances such as ibogaine and other experimental treatments that have shown promise in clinical and early-stage research.

Trump said the order is designed to expand treatment options, particularly for veterans struggling with severe mental health challenges.

“These treatments have shown life-changing potential for people suffering from serious mental illness,” Trump said, emphasizing the need to address the mental health crisis among veterans.

He also noted that Rogan had advocated for increased attention to psychedelic therapies in private discussions, which helped bring the issue to the administration’s agenda.

The executive order is intended to streamline regulatory pathways and encourage further scientific study of these therapies, which have gained growing attention as potential alternatives to traditional treatments.
