Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting Thursday night at South Carolina State University, prompting a campus lockdown that stretched into the early morning hours.
The gunfire was reported inside an apartment at the Hugine Suites student housing complex on the university’s Orangeburg campus, according to a statement from school officials.
Authorities have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been announced.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation, the university said.
Officials have not released the names of the two people who were killed or provided details about the condition of the injured victim.
In response to the incident, the university canceled classes for Friday.
The shooting comes months after two separate incidents in October on the same campus — including one at the Hugine Suites complex — left one person dead and another injured.
South Carolina State University enrolls approximately 2,800 students.
