Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) to turn a new leaf, sheathe their sword and respect the judgment of the Federal High Court recognising the Nenadi Usman-led national leadership of the party.
Reacting to the ruling, Otti said he was willing to forgive and reintegrate members of the Abure faction if they abandon what he described as unlawful actions and choose to become law-abiding party members.
The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, described the judgment as sound and reassuring, while expressing gratitude to party supporters and what he called lovers of democracy for standing by the Labour Party during what he termed a difficult period.
Otti urged those behind what he described as frivolous litigations against the party to respect the court’s decision, noting that the judgment aligns with an earlier ruling of the Supreme Court on the leadership crisis within the LP.
He further charged the recognised national leadership of the Labour Party to see the court victory as an opportunity to reorganise and strengthen the party, stressing the need to entrench peace, unity and justice in line with the party’s constitution and founding ideals.
According to the governor, only genuine reconciliation and strict adherence to the rule of law can reposition the Labour Party for stability and future electoral success.
