Odusote Becomes Nigerian Law School’s First Female DG

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the first female Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, and takes effect from January 10, 2026, for a four-year term.

Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. She will succeed Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026.

With the appointment, Odusote becomes the first woman to lead the Nigerian Law School since its establishment in 1962.

She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1998. She later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before proceeding to the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, where she obtained a PhD in law. Her research interests include public law and the administration of justice.

Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has held several key positions within the institution, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She has also served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.

She has published widely in local and international law journals, presented papers at various legal education conferences, and served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, Odusote will provide academic leadership, oversee administrative management, and set the strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across its campuses. She will also serve as the principal liaison between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
