Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland, meaning “the beloved child of Yorubaland,” in a ceremony held at the Alaafin of Oyo’s Palace on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The event drew a large turnout of political leaders, traditional rulers, and supporters, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Lagos East Senator Mikhail Tokunbo, former Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
In his remarks, Speaker Ogundoyin praised the honour as well-deserved, highlighting Seyi Tinubu’s influence among youths, philanthropic activities, and commitment to national unity. He said in a social media statement:
“Under the dignified leadership of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the ceremony was a powerful celebration of culture, legacy, and leadership. Seyi Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to youth development, innovation, and national unity continues to inspire many across Nigeria. This chieftaincy title is not just a recognition of his noble lineage as the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but also a testament to his personal impact and promise as a bridge between generations.”
Ogundoyin described the title as more than ceremonial, framing it as a call to service, leadership, and community development within Yorubaland. He encouraged Seyi Tinubu to leverage his new status to promote unity, cultural pride, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across the region.
The installation ceremony was part of a larger event, which also included the expected conferment of the Obaloyin of Yorubaland title on Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State.
Ogundoyin further commended the Alaafin for sustaining Yoruba cultural heritage and strengthening traditional institutions by recognising individuals who have demonstrated leadership, excellence, and dedication to community service.
The Okanlomo title marks a key milestone in Seyi Tinubu’s personal journey, highlighting his growing prominence as a youth advocate and emerging leader within Nigeria.
