Government Shutdown Enters Second Day Amid Partisan Budget Standoff

The federal government remained partially shut down on Thursday for a second consecutive day, as lawmakers on Capitol Hill failed to break a deadlock over rival spending proposals.

President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans pointed to Democrats’ demands for expanded health care funding as the reason for the impasse, while Democrats countered that Republicans were refusing to engage in meaningful negotiations to reach a deal.

The Senate is scheduled to reconvene Friday in an effort to advance new legislation and end the funding lapse.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has warned of potential mass layoffs among federal employees if the shutdown continues, raising concerns about the broader economic impact and disruption to public services.
