Tinubu Begins Japan-Brazil Visit to Strengthen Economic, Trade Ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today depart Abuja for a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will first attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22.

The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business climate through private investment and innovation, and building a resilient, sustainable society anchored on human security, peace, and stability.

While in Japan, President Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks, and engage with CEOs of Japanese firms with existing and prospective investments in Nigeria. Launched in 1993 by Japan and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, TICAD serves as a triennial platform for policy dialogue between African leaders and global development partners. The last edition was held in Tunisia in 2022.

From Japan, the President will proceed to Brasilia on August 24 for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. His schedule in Brazil includes bilateral meetings, participation in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at boosting economic, trade, and diplomatic relations.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials.
