APC’s Sani Shinkafi Endorses PDP’s Dauda Lawal for Second Term in Zamfara

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sani Shinkafi, has thrown his weight behind Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for a second term, praising his performance and transformation agenda.

In a statement issued on Monday, Shinkafi, a former critic of the governor, said Lawal’s administration had prioritized rural development and infrastructure, repositioning Zamfara as a commercial hub in less than two years.

He also debunked reports that the state government borrowed ₦34 billion for ongoing projects, describing the claims as politically motivated distractions aimed at derailing the administration’s “rescue mission agenda.”

“There is no evidence that the governor obtained any such loan. The report is a baseless attempt to shift attention from the remarkable transformation taking place across Zamfara,” Shinkafi stated.

Highlighting key achievements, he said Gusau the state capital has witnessed a major facelift, while Lawal’s efforts have turned Zamfara into a project site with development projects spread across its 14 local government areas.

He cited the construction of Gusau International Cargo Airport, major township roads, and the upgrade of general hospitals with modern equipment as examples of the governor’s visionary leadership.

Other achievements listed include:

  • Construction and furnishing of 500 schools
  • Payment of NECO, WAEC, and NABTEB exam fees
  • Upgrading of Zamfara State University
  • Acquisition of Islamic University in Shinkafi
  • Construction of markets, motor parks, and Emir palaces
  • Procurement of 50 buses for the state transport authority
  • Provision of 200 security vehicles to combat banditry

“Zamfara has never had it so good. These achievements show a pragmatic, compassionate and innovative leader focused on touching lives,” he said.

Shinkafi, once a vocal ally of former governor Bello Matawalle and chairman of the state’s anti-banditry committee, urged political actors in the state to rally behind Lawal, stressing that the governorship slot should remain in Zamfara Central Senatorial District in 2027 to allow Lawal complete a second term.

“From his achievements and in the spirit of justice and equity, I endorse Governor Dauda Lawal to continue for a second term,” he declared.

Shinkafi, who now heads the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, concluded that with improved security, resumption of farming, and growing commercial activity, Zamfara is finally on the path to greatness under Lawal’s leadership.
